Art

Weekly art lessons enable our pupils to explore their creativity and encourage them to represent the world in a visual way. We develop their understanding of colour, form, texture and pattern through use of a range of 2D and 3D media and by exploring the work of other artists and from other cultures. Children learn to make careful observations, experiment with media and apply their skills in creative activities.  The use of sketchbooks in encouraged, where children can experiment with ideas and techniques, before embarking on a final piece of work.  A new kiln has facilitated the development of creativity with pottery, for which our art teacher has a particular passion!

The children’s learning is also enhanced by workshops led by local artists in more specialist areas, such as felting or watercolour techniques.  We enter local and national art competitions, and had recent success with one of our pupils designing the front cover of the Ilkley Carnival brochure.

“When you are older, you realise that everything else is just nothing compared to painting and drawing.”
