Art

Weekly art lessons enable our pupils to explore their creativity and encourage them to represent the world in a visual way. We develop their understanding of colour, form, texture and pattern through use of a range of 2D and 3D media and by exploring the work of other artists and from other cultures. Children learn to make careful observations, experiment with media and apply their skills in creative activities. From Year 3, the use of sketchbooks in encouraged, where children can experiment with ideas and techniques, before embarking on a final piece of work.  A new kiln has facilitated the development of creativity with pottery.

The children’s learning is also enhanced by workshops led by local artists in more specialist areas, such as felting or watercolour techniques. Through taking part in the Take One Picture initiative, Moorfield pupils’ work has been displayed in London’s National Gallery.

“When you are older, you realise that everything else is just nothing compared to painting and drawing.”
