Why Moorfield?

Moorfield School and Nursery is a true ‘hidden gem’. Our parents and children have discovered how high aspirations, inspirational teaching and a caring and supportive environment is the perfect combination for a first class education. This video presentation gives a flavour of what we are about but we warmly invite you to come and see for yourself – you will not be disappointed!

THE IAPS kite mark of quality

There are strict criteria which any prep school must meet if they wish to be part of IAPS (Independent Association of Prep Schools). These criteria include the makeup of the governing body, staff salaries and pensions, and the acceptance of the Head as a member of the association.

Moorfield is a proud member of IAPS and the professional support network it provides.

Meeting the needs of every child

Moorfield children are taught in mixed ability classes with a maximum of 20 pupils per class. Within each class, individuals are taught according to their particular academic needs through effective differentiation allowing every child to move on from their level of ability. Differentiation may include, but is not limited to, ability groupings for certain lessons, targeted support from an additional adult (teaching assistant or teacher), peer support in mixed ability groups/pairs and appropriately levelled classwork and homework tasks. A mixture of learning styles is accommodated within lessons.

Personalised tasks help individuals with a specific weakness or strength offering support for those who find work difficult or extra stimulation for those children who are academically very able. Booster classes are provided where appropriate and one-to-one support from a specialist teacher is also available. Extension groups enable groups of capable learners to push themselves further.

A rich and varied curriculum

There is an exciting range of subjects and activities on offer at Moorfield. Specialist teaching in music, sport, modern foreign languages, cookery and bush craft give children rich learning experiences in areas demanding particular levels of expertise. Themed teaching and child-led learning in the younger year groups gives way to

A strong academic foundation

Teaching is rigorous and children develop a positive attitude to learning. Differentiated and personalised teaching ensures that every pupil develops academically and is stretched from their level of ability to make excellent progress. Full examination preparation enables each child to get into their first choice of senior school, but far more than that, each leaves Moorfield with the personal confidence to get involved in everything on offer and thrive at secondary school.

Exceptional Music and Sport

Huge opportunities for musical development give pupils much fun and chance to sparkle. Our award winning strings group, Irish Band and superb school choir give plenty of opportunity for music making together. The key words are enjoyment and inclusion and the outcome is exceptional.

Sport is really important for developing an active, fit and healthy lifestyle. We engender a competitive spirit for all team fixtures and offer a wide selection of extra-curricular sports activities. With a growing number of boys we offer coaching in football, rugby and cricket from Reception and golf lessons from Year 3.

‘I was surprised by the raised level in their fitness as a result of the sporting opportunities they get at Moorfield.’
