About Moorfield School

A childhood of discovery, opportunity and achievement.

For almost a century, Moorfield has remained true to a simple belief: childhood should be valued, enjoyed and remembered.

Our Ethos

While the world around us changes, our foundation stays remarkably constant. We teach children to treat others with kindness, work hard, take responsibility for themselves and one another, and celebrate what makes each person unique. These values shape our everyday life—in the classroom, on the playground, out on Ilkley Moor and far beyond.

As a small school, relationships are important, and we know every child individually. We believe the best learning happens when children feel safe, understood, and happy to simply have a go. Here, there is time to ask questions, explore ideas and enjoy the journey of learning, without being rushed from one milestone to the next.

We want our pupils to leave Moorfield with solid academic foundations, lasting friendships and a quiet confidence in who they are. When they move on to their next schools, they do so not just academically prepared, but as kind, enthusiastic and grounded individuals ready to make a positive contribution wherever life takes them.

Part of the Bradford Grammar School Foundation

Moorfield has been part of the Bradford Grammar School Foundation since 2026, strengthening our future while preserving everything that makes our school unique.

For almost 100 years, Moorfield has provided a warm, ambitious and individual education for children in Ilkley. Joining the Foundation ensures that this approach continues, giving families confidence in the school’s long-term future while creating valuable new opportunities for pupils and staff.

The best of both worlds

Moorfield remains proudly Moorfield.

Our leadership, ethos, small classes and nurturing approach continue to define everyday life here. Children enjoy the same close-knit community, outdoor learning, specialist teaching and individual attention that have always been at the heart of our school.

As part of the Bradford Grammar School Foundation, we also benefit from the strength and expertise of one of Yorkshire’s leading independent school foundations. Working closely alongside BGS allows us to share knowledge, operational expertise and educational best practice, keeping our offer as strong as ever.

Looking ahead

The partnership builds on a long-standing relationship between the two schools and a shared commitment to academic standards, strong pastoral support and rich opportunities beyond the classroom.

For parents, it offers long-term reassurance alongside the warmth, character and close community that generations of Moorfield families know and value.
