Junior School
From painting and pottery to music, drama and whole-school productions, children are encouraged to express themselves, develop new skills and share their talents with others. With specialist teaching from the earliest years, every pupil at Moorfield has the opportunity to perform, create and discover what they love.
Art
Art at Moorfield is about exploring ideas, experimenting with different techniques and seeing the world in new ways. Working with specialist teachers, pupils use drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, textiles and ceramics to develop their artistic skills while building a portfolio of work they can be proud of.
Our dedicated art facilities, including a specialist kiln for ceramics, allow pupils to work with a wide variety of materials, while visiting artists introduce techniques such as watercolour and felting through hands-on workshops.
Creativity regularly extends beyond the classroom, with pupils entering local and national competitions and exhibiting their work. Inspired by the Turner Prize, the whole school created an ambitious exhibition as part of Bradford’s UK City of Culture celebrations, transforming Moorfield into its own gallery and showcasing the creativity of every pupil.
Following a tour of the gallery, special guest Mr Nick Hockney (nephew of renowned artist, David Hockney) was so impressed by the remarkable standard of the pupils’ work that he pledged to collaborate and work with Moorfield in a variety of creative ways over the coming academic year. “

Music
Music is part of everyday life at Moorfield. Every child enjoys specialist music lessons, learning to read music, sing, play instruments and explore everything from classical composers to contemporary and world music.
Many pupils choose to take individual or small-group instrumental lessons with our experienced visiting musicians, with tuition available across strings, woodwind, brass, percussion, piano, guitar and voice.
Beyond the classroom, music brings the school community together. Choirs, the school band, drumline, recorder and ukulele groups rehearse throughout the year before performing at concerts, productions, seasonal services and community events.
Drama
From Form 2, pupils are taught by specialist drama teacher and Royal Shakespeare Company actor Chris Chilton, who develops their acting techniques, stagecraft and confidence to perform in front of an audience.
Performance is a much-loved part of school life. Younger pupils delight audiences in the annual Nativity, while older children take part in full-scale productions featuring professional-quality costumes, staging and music. Recent performances have included Matilda, Mary Poppins, The Lion King, Annie and The Wizard of Oz.
