At Moorfield, the outdoors is an essential part of how our children learn, develop and discover who they are.
From Nursery onwards, children spend time exploring Ilkley Moor, the surrounding woodlands and our dedicated Bushcraft site, developing practical skills and a lasting connection with the natural world.
Junior School

Bushcraft is woven into school life, giving every child the opportunity to learn through real experiences.
Whether they’re safely lighting a campfire, building shelters, learning to use tools responsibly or foraging for seasonal ingredients before cooking together over the fire, every activity has a purpose.
Along the way, children develop resilience, teamwork, creativity and independence—qualities that stay with them long after they’ve left the woods.
A classroom without walls
Our dedicated Bushcraft site is unlike any other classroom.
Gathered around the fire circle beneath a large canopy, children learn in every season and every kind of weather. They climb, create, investigate, build and explore, discovering that some of life’s most valuable lessons happen with muddy boots and fresh air.
The outdoors encourages children to slow down, notice more and approach challenges with curiosity and imagination.
