Academic Life

at Moorfield School

“Children flourish when they are given the confidence to try, the freedom to discover and the encouragement to be themselves.”

The Junior School years are a time of enormous growth, discovery and achievement.

At Moorfield, children in Forms 1 to 6 are encouraged to develop confidence, curiosity and a genuine love of learning as they progress through a broad and engaging curriculum. Specialist teachers bring subjects to life through hands-on experiences, creative challenges and practical exploration, ensuring every lesson inspires children to think independently and embrace new ideas.

From English, mathematics and science to modern languages, music, art, drama, sport and outdoor learning, each day presents fresh opportunities to learn, achieve and discover new passions. The curriculum is carefully designed to balance academic rigour with creativity, helping pupils build strong foundations while developing the critical thinking, communication and problem-solving skills needed for future success.

Small class sizes are at the heart of the Moorfield experience. Our teachers know every child as an individual, understanding their strengths, interests and aspirations. This allows them to provide the right balance of support and challenge, encouraging each pupil to aim high, build confidence and fulfil their potential.

Learning beyond the classroom

Some of the best learning at Moorfield happens with mud on our boots or a script in our hands.

Whether it’s exploring the rugged landscape of Ilkley Moor, taking to the stage in a drama production, representing the school on the sports pitch or heading off on a residential trip, we encourage children to throw themselves into everything. These moments aren’t just extra-curricular—they build resilience, spark lifelong passions and forge lasting friendships.

Small school. Big opportunities.

At Moorfield, being a small school is one of our greatest strengths. Strong relationships between pupils, teachers and families create an environment where children feel confident asking questions, embracing new challenges and supporting one another. Older pupils naturally become role models for younger children; friendships flourish across year groups and everyone feels part of a close-knit community.

By the time they leave Form 6, our boys and girls are well prepared for the next stage of their education, equipped with a wealth of experiences, lasting friendships and the confidence, resilience and character to embrace whatever comes next.
