Science
Moorfield offers excellent facilities for science and delivers an exciting curriculum of
science investigation. Science in school is based around the National Curriculum topics.
Practical experimental work forms the basis of lessons in order to encourage enquiring minds
and help the pupils understand the world around them.
The team of science teachers aim to inspire deep scientific understanding from Reception
upwards. Practical learning involves every child contributing their ideas. By setting up
their own experiments the children are encouraged to think scientifically. They explore by
working out what to do and they learn to explain and evaluate. By reflecting on what they
have learned the children develop strong scientific skills.
The teaching and learning of science involves many cross-curricular activities and
opportunities, described as ‘excellent’ in the June 2011 Inspection Report.
The aim is for pupils to leave Moorfield with confidence in themselves as knowledgeable
scientists, able to plan, question and analyse using a wide variety of skills.
