English
The ability to communicate effectively for a range of purposes and in a variety of ways is essential and at the heart of everything we do at Moorfield. Through a solid grounding in phonics and writing, we endeavour to furnish the pupils with all the skills they need to be confident, articulate and literate members of society. We expect a consistent standard of the language throughout all subjects so that proficiency in both speaking and writing becomes second nature.

Boudicca’s revolt from the point of view of a Roman soldier.
My name is Marcus and I have been a soldier in the Roman army for ten years. My legion got the command to march south six weeks ago for yet another battle with Boudicca, Queen of the Iceni tribe. My heart sank. We had already been soundly beaten by the Celts three times, but this time, 10,000 soldiers were ready to face these troublemakers one more time.
We had settled into camp and we had been ready for battle for days. On the morning of the battle, a dense mist hung over the camp. We were getting our armour on. When we were dressed we sharpened our swords. When it was time for battle, Commander Paulinus stood in front of us like a great king. His speech was loud and powerful. It made us feel as though we could win.

Regret
Regret is being sorry for what you’ve done,
Regret is being sorry for what you haven’t done,
There is a sad look on your face,
As if your mouth has a bitter taste,
Crying is the sound of regret,
It feels as if you can’t forget.
In your mind regret is strange,
Wishing you had the chance to change.
The smell of regret is like dirty mud,
A trail of tears will cause a flood.
