History

In order to develop children’s understanding of, and enthusiasm for, the past, the history curriculum at Moorfield is taught through a variety of exciting cross-curricular methods. Engaging and experiential lessons leave each child feeling inspired, while regular out of school visits help to bring the past to life. Visiting experts and whole-school theme days, such as our recent Victorian day, make for a fun and practical way to approach these periods in history.

In the lower school, history and geography are taught under the ‘Humanities’ umbrella. Broad historical skills are developed, leading children to intelligently question, examine and expand their knowledge of life in the past, both in the UK and worldwide.

In the upper school, historical events and periods are studied in more detail, from British history and invaders and settlers in years 3 and 4, to historical periods of great importance in year 5, and British history from 1939 to the present in year 6.

“History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again.”
