About Eco-Schools

Moorfield School is leading the way for schools in the Wharfe Valley. We achieved the prestigious green flag in 2008 and actively encourage other schools to follow in our footsteps.
Eco-schools work through a democratic process to promote a sense of responsibility throughout the whole school to improve the local and wider environment.
We registered as an Eco-School in January 2006 and we have not looked back since! Eco-Schools is run internationally by the Foundation For Environmental Education. It is a programme which promotes environmental awareness within schools and links to many curriculum subjects. Moorfield is closely involved with such projects as the RSPB Save the Albatross campaign and the BBC's Springwatch and nestbox challenges. By the time pupils leave Moorfield School they will fully understand the meaning of the words 'sustainability' and 'biodiversity' and they will appreciate the part they need to play in caring for their environment.
Alan Titchmarsh paid a visit to Moorfield School For Girls to find out what they had achieved as an Eco-School. It was a fabulous occasion for all of us, Alan included. He was so impressed by our achievements. It was good to see that he is as passionate about encouraging children to take an active part in making environmental decisions as we are. During Alan's visit he presented each girl with a shower timer kindly donated by the Big Green Smile company.
The work you are doing is so important and I am glad that it is received with such excitement and enjoyment by the children. When I see the sort of things you have achieved, and how receptive and enthusiastic the children are, it reminds me why I do the job I do. ~ Alan Titchmarsh
