The ability to communicate effectively for a range of purposes and in a variety of ways is essential and at the heart of everything we do at Moorfield. Through a solid grounding in phonics and writing, we endeavour to furnish the girls with all the skills they need to be confident, articulate and literate members of society. We expect a consistent standard of the language throughout all subjects so that proficiency in both speaking and writing becomes second nature to the girls.

Poetry for the Season by Moorfield Girls in Senior 5 and Senior 6

Gifts for the King

I give a candle
So that you will always see light
In troubled times,

I bring you the sweet smell of a rose
So that you remember that
Love is with you,

I give you a lion,
So that you are courageous
And brave,

I bring you these gifts
For you are
Emmanuel

Celebration

Rosy red wine in fishbowl glasses
swills enticingly,
Her sparkling dress glistens like a disco ball,
Dazzling all the men,
Streams of laughter flood the room as
Stilettos clack to the beat,
Bubbles in champagne hang like paper chains.

The clock strikes midnight…
Arms link,
Glasses chink –
It’s New Year fun again!

Resolutions

Eat more veg and watch less telly,
Clean my room so it don’t get smelly,
Go to sleep and get up early,
Brush my teeth ‘til they’re white and pearly,
Do not grizzle, grump and grouch,
Quit nibbling nails and do not slouch,
Stop reading ‘til the dead of night,
Work as quickly as the speed of light…

Maybe next year!
